Happy Father’s Day – What is a DAD?

Father's Day - Dad

Happy Father’s Day – Dad

What is a DAD? Poem for Father’s Day

A DAD is a person

Who’s loving and kind,

And often he knows

What you have on your mind,

He’s someone who listens

Suggests and defends…

A dad can be one

Of your very best friends!

He’s proud of your triumphs,

But when things go wrong,

A dad can be patient

And helpful and strong.

In all that you do

A dad’s love plays a part –

There’s always a place for him

Deep in your heart-

And each year that passes

You’re even more glad

More grateful and proud

Just to call him your dad!

Top 10 Words of Wisdom by Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi, a lawyer by profession, needs no introduction. One of the greatest and most inspirational leaders of his time, he was inclined towards a peaceful movement during a time of great upheaval and fear. India’s independence is closely tied to his quite unique style of persistent campaigning. He is a legend in his own right and as such his teachings hold true at all levels of humanity. Here are some of his well known quotes:

Top 10 Words of Wisdom from Gandhi Image

Top 10 Words of Wisdom from Gandhi Image

  1. Be the change that you wish to see in the world

Indeed we are only able to change ourselves. So we can only make the change we want to see in the world within ourselves and we will see this change reflected back to us. This is quite a powerful observation which we only fully begin to understand as we become mentally mature.

  1. What you think, you become

The most important aspect is to focus on the seed planted as a thought, because this is what you allow to grow into fruit. Think positive and something positive will grow. Dwell on the negative and that problem will surely grow. Focus on the image you want to see as a result of your thoughts and that image is more likely to become a part of your physical realm.

  1. Where there is love there is life

It is the emotion of love which keeps the heart of humanity pumping. As long as there are people who show love, humanity will keep going strong. Love overcomes hatred and other negative emotions. Negative emotions of course are usually the seeds which create an ill state of mind, body and soul. Love is one of the main ingredients of a healthy long life.

  1. Learn as if you’ll live forever

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” This quote encapsulates the passion of life and humanity’s quest and thirst for knowledge and learning. We continue to strive and become our best through the state of learning. Stagnate and we may as well give up altogether. Life is about change and you can help it along with the right type of knowledge which when coupled with life experience, eventually becomes wisdom.

  1. Your health is your real wealth

Have you ever suffered from even slight pain of any kind? When you experience suffering of any kind, you suddenly realise the true value of your health. So appreciate whatever good health you have, even in times when everything around you is mundane.

  1. Have a sense of humour

Whatever type of humour you have, you need it to get through life. Don’t take yourself too seriously because chances are that very few other people do. Do you want to go through life with smiles and laughter ringing in your ears or a straight face and tears?

  1. Your life is your message

What sort of message are you portraying to the world? Is this the message you really want to send out and are you being honest and true to your value system? Do you in essence believe in honesty but revert to lies for whatever reason? Even if they are white lies they are still lies. Is that how you want to be remembered? It is worth remembering that other people can eventually see through those lies. Live your life with integrity and you will see it reflected back to you and that is how you will be remembered.

  1. Action expresses priorities

You may think something is important in your life but if you are only paying lip service to what you think is important then think again. Pay close attention to the areas in your life which you are motivated to take action. Those are actually the most important priorities to you on an inner level and that is why you take those actions.

  1. Our greatness is being able to remake ourselves

As a species, we are extremely resilient when it comes down to it and have the ability to survive much adversity. When we feel broken, this is an opportunity for us to re-mould into something more beautiful and aim towards a better self. Much like when a caterpillar changes into a butterfly. Can you ever imagine that a simple thing such as a caterpillar would ever turn into something of great beauty as the butterfly and to be able to fly as well! Or even the ugly duckling becoming the beautiful swan!

    10. Find yourself in the service of others

When our mind focuses on helping other people, strangely, our own needs get met as well. We get back what we put into humanity as a whole. It has now also been shown by various studies that people who focus on others are generally happier in life. So allow other people to share in your happiness by helping them where you can.

These ten suggestions are just a stepping stone towards the foundations of a basic value system of humanity. Even if we apply some of these principles, our lives become enriched at a deeper level.
